5 Reasons to Take Engagement Photos

Are you thinking about taking engagement photos? Wondering if they are truly needed? Most of my bride-to-be’s ask me if they should take engagement photos. My first thought is hell yes, please do! With all the busy wedding planning tasks, couples often overlook the importance of having their wedding photographer take engagement photos. These are the 5 reasons why you should definitely think about this memorable photo session.
1) Share your love story!
Every couple has a love story, right? How did you meet your spouse? Was it love at first sight? What most excites you about your love story? How did you know they were “the one”?! What made you fall in love with your spouse? Use your engagement photos to tell your special love story. If you have a memorable moment, couple theme or specific location from your love story try to incorporate that into your engagement photos!
2) Get to know your photographer
The most important thing besides being in love with your photographers style is the connection between you all. Your engagement session is a great way to meet your photographer for the first time and it helps to prepare for your wedding day. By the time your wedding day arrives, your photographer will know your likes and dislikes, so you can enjoy your day and they can comfortably capture your moments!
3) Calm your nerves!
Being comfortable in front of the camera is not easy! I truly understood what my clients go through when I got my personal headshots taken. Boy oh boy, kudos to the models and public figures that so confidently pose effortlessly because it is not easy – at all. Best way to shake off the nerves is to work with your photographer by telling them any of your concerns and angles that are your not so favorite.
4) Practice makes progress
In addition to using an egagement session to get to know your wedding photographer, it also a great time to practice calming your nerves and being in front of the camera. Your photographer can assist you with specific poses that compliment your already beautiful union and help you set the tone for your wedding day.
5) Express your couple creativity!
This is your time to shine! This is your time to celebrate your love! Do you have a couple theme? Do you have something you enjoy doing with each other or a favorite landmark. Why not incorporate that idea into your engagement session? Theme couple shoots are not only fun but truly represent your love as a couple.
